a new year is near!!

2012 is so close & i am stoked.  on May 30th i tried out couponing by scoring free Popsicles.  i've learned a lot from then until now & i'm confident that i can make better & smarter grocery trips.  so beginning Monday, January 1st, i will try my best to bring down our grocery spending budget.  i'm not sure about what amount is good right now, but i plan to start at a number & try to stay within that budget for at least 2 months to see if it's a "realistic" number.  if not, then i will adjust as needed.

right now the number in my head is $200 per month.

i need to set guidelines with this number though.  like...do paper towels & toilet paper count in this amount?  what about shampoo, body wash, etc?

also i'd like to try & track my receipts & spending like i did at the beginning of the year.

I've been a coupon slacker!!

I've still been couponing, but not to the extent that I could have been.  The deals were good, but not amazing.  There's a pretty decent amount of good things this week, so I'm going to be hitting up 4 stores today or tomorrow.  Here's how my trips should pan out....

Albertsons - They are running Twice The Value coupons from today until Thursday YAY!!

Transaction #1
   12 packages of Luden's Cough Drops - $1.25each = $15.00
        I will use 3 - $1.00 off of 2 package coupons + 3 doublers = $6.00 off for 6 packages
        I will use 3 - $1.00 off of 2 package coupons = $3.00 off for the other 6 packages
        My total will be $6.00, then they will give me a $5.00 Catalina to use on my next purchase
        It will be like paying $1.00 for 12 packages of cough drops ($0.08ea)

Transaction #2
    6 packages of Bar-S Hot Dogs - $1.29each = $7.74
         I will use 3 - $0.75 off of 2 package coupons + 3 doublers = $4.50 off
         My total will be $3.24 for 6 packages of hot dogs ($0.54ea)

Transaction #3
     2 packages of Kings Hawaiian Sweet Bread Rolls - $2.50each = $5.00
         I will use $1.00 off 2 package coupons + 1 doubler = $2.00 off
         This will total $3.00

     2 cans of Carnation Evaporated Milk - $0.97each = $1.94
         I will use $0.50 off of 2 cans + 1 doubler = $1.00 off
         This will total $0.94

     1 bottle of Langers Juice - $1.49each
         I will use $0.55 off of 1 bottle + 1 doubler = $1.10 off
         This will total $0.39

     Transaction #3 total will be $4.33 for 2 packages of Sweet Bread, 2 cans of Evap Milk & 1 juice

Transaction #4
      6 packages of Hershey's Chocolate Chips - $1.69each = $8.45
          I will use 3 - $1.00 off of 2 packages + 3 doublers = $6.00 off
          My total will be $2.45 for 6 packages of chocolate chips (about $0.41ea)

Transaction #5 - Albertsons is having a buy 10 items, get $5.00 off instantly
      3 boxes of General Mills Cereal - $2.49each = $7.47
           I will use $1.00 off 3 boxes of cereal + 1 doubler = $2.00 off
           This will total $5.47

       2 Ragu Pasta Sauce - $0.99each = $1.98
           I will use a "buy 2 jars Ragu, get 1 box of pasta free" coupon

       2 Hungry Jack Hash Brown Potatoes - $0.99each = $1.98
           I will use $1.00 off 2 + 1 doubler = $2.00 off
           This will be FREE

       3 Boxes of Barilla Pasta - $0.75each = $1.50 (1 is free from the Ragu)

       Transaction #5 total will be $8.95, then I will use the $5.00 Catalina from Transaction #1
             So my total out of pocket expense will be $3.95 for 3 boxes of cereal, 2 pasta sauce,
             3 boxes of pasta & 2 packs of hash browns

Transaction #6
        11 boxes of Totinos Pizza - $1.00each = $11.00

              My total will be $6.60 for 11 pizzas ($0.60ea)

       **So for my total Albertsons Trip, my total out of pocket expense will be $26.57!!**

 Target is running a 4-day sale for some Thanksgiving items.  I don't need much from here & I told my Mother Inlaw that I'd pick her up a few things.

         5 cans of Campbell's Cream of Mushroom Soup - $0.49each = $2.45
                I will use $1.00 off of 5 cans coupon = $1.00 off

                This will be $0.96 for 4 cans

          **My total out of pocket expense for my Target trip will be $2.41**

Rite Aid - I've been avoiding Rite Aid's UpReward program like the plague, but there's some good deals this week, so I thought i'd give it a small try....

         1 Bottle of Samy Hair product - $8.99
                 I will use $3.00 off 1 bottle coupon + a $2.00 off 1 bottle coupon from the Rite Aid Video
                         Values (can be stacked with a manufacturer coupon!) = $5.00 off
                 This will be $3.99 & then they will give me a $5.00 UP Reward to use on my next purchase
                 (it will make this a $1.01 money maker)

          3 bottles of Airwick Aerosol Air Freshener - $1.00each = $3.00

           1 bag Huggies Pulls Ups - $9.99each
                  I will use $1.50 off 1 package + a $1.50 off 1 from the Rite Aid Video Values = $3.00 off
                  This will be $6.99

     **My total out of pocket expense for Rite Aid will be $20.97 & then I will get $10.00 back to use on my next shopping trip.  So it's like paying $10.97.**

At Walgreens, I just want to pick up one item...

let's do this!!

Last week, i posted that i was behind in my couponing.  In fact, I was about 3 weeks behind.  I've been so fortunate that I have "clipper" friends who've been giving me their coupons, but sadly they all remain in the envelopes that were given to me.  And let's not even talk about the STALK of inserts that have been patiently waiting to be cut also.  My dining room table looks like i hoard newspaper inserts.

i have a stack of printed out coupons waiting to be cut.  i also have a stack of envelopes FILLED with coupons that people have cut for me.

my HUGE stack of uncut inserts.  i'm sure the bottom half of the stack is expired already.  so sad!

I also have to go through my binder because i'm certain there's some expired stuff in there too.

HOWEVER, my plate is now more than half empty & I can give my couponing some more time.  If you haven't seen the Sunday paper yet, there were Twice The Value coupons in the Albertsons insert.  YAY!!  Those are only good through tomorrow though, so I'll be heading over there to shop tomorrow morning for a few things.  SO not going to the FW location though, before someone hits my parked car again.

Here's what I'll be getting at ALBERTSONS...

 **Kraft Cheese (block or shredded) - On Sale for $1.00.  There is a $1.00 off 2 coupon near the cheese & use it with your double & it becomes $2.00 off 2, making it FREE!

 **Starkist Tuna Pouches - On Sale for $1.00.  There's a $1.00 off 1 in the AllYou Magazine - Sept issue.  Making this FREE

 **Essential Pasta - On Sale for $1.00.  In the Albertsons "Fresh for Fall" coupon book, they have a $1.00 off 1 box of pasta.  Making this FREE.  If you take 5 of the books when you walk in, you can get 5 boxes for free.

 **CEREAL DEAL.  Buy 5 of any General Mills items, they will be $1.88ea:  Cheerios, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Chex, Chex Mix, Bugles, Gardettos, Nature Valley Granola Bars or Thins, Fruit Snacks.
     DEAL TO TRY:   Buy 2 boxes of Cheerios & 3 boxes of Cinnamon Toast Crunch
                                  Use $1.00 off 2 boxes of Cheerios coupon
                                  Use $1.00 off 3 boxes of General Mills cereal coupon
                                  Use 2 Twice the Value coupons (gives you $4.00 off)
                                  Pay $5.40 total, which makes it $1.08 per box.

And then I'll head to FRED MEYER & do this deal....

  Last week (on 10/2 in the P&G ad) there was a coupon for $8.00 off 2 CoverGirl Face Products.  Of course you have to figure out what a "face" product is, but luckily for me Angela at TheCouponProject did the deal & posted about it.  You can get:  Blush, Concealer, Powder or Foundation.  The mascaras & lipsticks are excluded.

  She bought:
     1 Blush @ $3.49
     1 Concealer @ $3.49
     1 Powder @ $5.99
     1 Foundation @ $5.99

  Her subtotal was $18.96, she used 2 of the $8.00 off 2 coupons, making it $2.96 (give or take for tax) for all 4 products, or $0.74 ea.

I always buy makeup around competition time for hula, so this is AWESOME for me. :)

I'll post up after my shopping trips to tell whether it works out or not.  :)  Happy couponing!!

Apologies!!

I'm still here!!  I've been BUUUUUUSY!!  My hula group is super busy right now with 3 major events in a 6 week period.  What that means is practices every day & in some instances, double practices.  This upcoming weekend, i'll be in California for a competition & then I'll be able to concentrate more on my couponing.

I miss it dearly.  I'm so behind.  I have a HUGE stack of coupons waiting to be cut & another HUGE stack waiting to go in my binder.  I'm hoping that they haven't expired.  Yes, it's that bad.

I'm excited to see/read that Albertsons is coming out with their Twice The Value coupons on Sunday.  I hope that when I return from my trip, I can score some good deals.

Let's try something!!

I apologize for the stand still on this blog.  After my good Albertsons doubler shopping trip the last time, I didn't really do much couponing since.  I did some, but not anything too outrageous.

Since then I hosted a couponing class which i had 6 attedees.  It worked out awesome, because I prefer a small class to keep everyone at the same pace. I did it as a small fundraiser for my upcoming hula competitions.  I plan on doing another one in October.  The people that came seemed to really enjoy it & were amazed at the possibility of how much money can be saved.  That was exciting for me...to see their excitement!  I love that!!

So I thought i'd try something out to help out whoever wants the help.  I'll post up links to the different stores & what sales they are having for the week.  I hope it helps all of you who find their way here...

The Albertsons Trip 8/30

This morning I decided to run to Albertsons & do my couponing.  It didn't go quite as planned, because I needed some other things like soda & things for lunch & whatnot.  Not to mention that I totally messed up on the Hot Dog deal & forgot my damn weekly coupon.  BOO!!

I did all of my transactions except for the Fifth one, which was the Crest Toothpaste.

What was supposed to be about $17.24 out of pocket, ended up being a $50 trip. Ugh....

It just was all kinds of wrong today.  And now, I will pay for it with this upcoming weeks budget, because I will either have to REALLY watch what i spend or I will be completely over budget.

Crap....

The things I sign up for

I sign up for all kinds of stuff.  Especially if it's something that i KNOW i will use.

A tad behind...

I fell a little behind last week on my couponing, however on Thursday morning I made 2 small trips.  One stop at Target & another at QFC.

My Target trip consisted of...
a Mossimo one sleeve dress - was $13.98 on clearance, used my $3.00 off Mossimo clothing coupon.
a pair of capris for Nunu for school - was $5.98 on clearance
razors - was $2.89, used my $2.00 off any Bic razors coupon
Vitamin Water - $0.88ea this week, used my Buy 2, Get 1 Free coupon
2 packs Danimals Smoothies 6pk - $2.00 this week, used a $1.00 off Target coupon & a $0.50 off manu. coupon
2 packs Activia Yogurt 4pk - $2.00 this week, used a $1.00 off Target coupon & a $0.25 off manu. coupon
2 Garnier Fructise Sham/Con (1ea) - $2.79ea this week.  used $1.00 off Target coupon & a $1.00 off manu. coupon
I can't remember what else was on my list, but my total was $65.00 & I ended up paying a $31 & some odd change.

Then at QFC...
2 bottles of KC BBQ Sauce - used $0.50 off manu. coupon, purchasing this sauce gave me $2.00 off a package of pork ribs.
2 packs of bonelss pork ribs
4 packs of pens - they were $0.79ea this week, I had a $1.00 off purchase of 2 coupon
I know I had a few other items & remember that I ended up paying $13 after my card & coupons.

I have a good stockpile of food in my freezer & cupboards for the week.  Today the girls & I went to Winco to get a few odds & ends to make up for a few lunches for M & Nunu as we start school next week. YAY!!

I am sure that I will be kicking myself in the butt for saying this later, but I'm looking forward to waking up early & having a regular daily routine.

How to pay $3.86 for 75 yards of elastic

Many many years ago we received a $25.00 gift card that can be used at Chili's, Maggiano's, or Macaroni Grill.  I lost track of it & found it in the garage when I was dumping stuff.  I pondered on keeping it, but why?  If I didn't use it all these years, I probably wouldn't use it.  Especially since none of those places are near here.

So I went to Plastic Jungle.  It's a site where you can sell your unused gift cards.  You type in where your gift card is for & how much it's for (minimum of $25.00) & then a box will pop up with your payout options.  An Amazon Gift Card, Direct Deposit to your PayPal or they'll send you Cash.  Of course it's not for the full amount, but that doesn't bother me.

So for my $25.00 gift card, my offers were:
   ** $21.00 Amazon Gift Card
   **$20.00 PayPal
   **$20.00 Cash

I opted for the Amazon Gift Card.  First because I got more back, secondly because you can find anything on Amazon & third because I get free 2-day shipping.  When I completed my transaction with Plastic Jungle, it directed me to print out a receipt of what I was sending in & also a pre-paid shipping label.  I put my card in an envelope with the receipt & taped the shipping label on & dropped it off.  Within 5 days, I had an email with my Amazon Gift Card redemption code.

Easy!!

And then I also signed up for SwagBucks a while back.  It's pretty much like Google.  You type things in at the top in the search box & once in awhile, you'll get points known as "Swag Bucks."  When you accumulate so many points, you redeem them for cool prizes...such as a $5.00 Amazon Gift Card (when you accumulate 450 points).  I'm close to receiving my 3rd - $5.00 Amazon Gift Card.

So in my SwagBucks account, I had a $5.00 Gift Card redemption code waiting to be used.

So then comes the question...why would I need so much elastic?  I have a small project that I'm working on requiring me to make hula skirts.  15 of them.  I'm trying to cut down on the cost of supplies, so I'm using the resources that I have:  the material that's been sitting in containers for awhile waiting to be used & my Amazon Gift Cards.

Today I found a 75 foot roll of elastic for $29.86.  I used my $26.00 in Amazon Gift Card codes.  And now I only have to pay $3.86 out of pocket.  AND it'll be at my door by Saturday afternoon.

Good deals are not only found at the grocery stores...you can do awesome things online too!! :)

I always forget...

I always write my shopping plan & then forget to post up the aftermath!!  Sheesh!!

So here's a photo of my shopping trip to Albertsons & Walgreens....

Walgreens - Total:  $41.52.  Paid $4.72 out of pocket.

3 boxes of envelopes, 3 bottles of shave gel, 1 bottle nail polish, 2 packs of dental floss, 8 packages of M&M's, 6 packs of gum, 5 cans of Cream of Mushroom soup.

At the moment, I can't decide if i'm going to get up early to get my jump start on my Albertsons trip on Sunday.  There's a part of me that wants to, because everytime the Twice The Value coupons come out, I always wait & miss out on the deals that I really want.

Here's the list that I've planned out so far...
**They are running a deal where if you buy 10 selected items, you get a $5.00 catalina coupon to use on your next shopping trip**  I jump started this $5.00 catalina already, in hopes to spend hardly anything out of pocket for my Doubles trips**  Also, i'm hearing that there's 3 Twice The Value coupons this Sunday & you can only use 3 per transaction, so either place the bar down or make several trips**

              use 3 - $0.40/2 coupons + 2 doubles (will take off $2.00)
                            **i can only use 2 doubles here, because i used 1 above for the soup)
              Pay:  $1.00
         Total:  $1.00 out of pocket, get $5.00 catalina

     Trip #3
          Buy 8 Totinos Party Pizza - $0.75ea (total of $6.00)
               use 2 - $1/4 coupons + 2 doubles (will take off $4.00)
               Pay $2.00
          Buy 2 - Cocoa Puffs - $1.49ea (total of $3.00)
               use 2 - $0.75/1 coupons + 1 double (will take off $2.25)
                              **i can only use 1 double, because i used 2 above for the pizza**
               Pay: $0.75
          Total:  $2.75 out of pocket, get $5.00 catalina

**also another deal is if you spend $12.00 on any Nestle Ice Cream products, you get a $4.00 catalina to use on your next shopping trip**

      Trip #4
           Buy 2 - V8 Fusion - $2.00ea (total of $4.00)
                use $1/2 coupon + double (will take off $2.00)
                Pay: $2.00
          Buy 4 - Dreyers Ice Cream - $3.00ea (total of $12.00)
                use 2 - $1/2 coupon + 2 doubles (will take off $4.00)
                Pay: $8.00
          Total:  $10.00 (use 2 prior $5.00 catalinas) + get a $4.00 catalina to use on my next shopping trip

After these trips, I will have spent $14.35.  Trip #1 & #2 will be of course with change/cash, because I can't use my catalinas towards totals that don't total a dollar amount.  Trip #3 will be paid with my $2.00 catalina + change.  And I already explained how trip #4 will be paid.

I will still have 2 - $5.00 catalinas & 1 - $4.00 & 1 - $2.00 catalina.  Remember, I jump started my shopping already, so i have 1 - $5.00 & 1 - $2.00 catalina in my purse right now.

          My trip the other day:
                        Bought 10 Hamburger Helper - $1.00ea (total of $10.00)
                             used 2 - $0.75/4 coupons & $0.80/2 coupons (took off $2.30)
                            Paid:  $7.70 out of pocket, got back $7.00 in catalina coupons
          Apparently when you buy 10 of the HH, it prints out an extra $2.00 catalina!!  So I paid $0.70
          for 10 boxes of HH.

I've actually got a decent amount of catalina coupons/gift cards right now:

$7.00 for Albertsons
$12.00 for Walgreens/Fred Meyer
$9.00 for QFC
$5.00 gift card for Target

I'm starting to wonder if i accumulate new catalinas every week, if i can just keep rolling them week after week to hardly spend anything out of pocket at all.  That would be awesome if I could find decent deals at all the stores every week to keep it going, but that's not always the case.  But i'll try!!

Good things are coming!!

I have a decent non-food stockpile.  I think it's pretty good anyway....

You can't see the details, but it includes: 2 bottles of lotion, 1 bottle of body wash, 4 cans of shave gel, 12 packs of Cottonelle wipes, 2 nail clippers, 3 boxes of bandaids, 3 packs of Shout Wipes, 12 tubes of toothpaste, a 2pk of toothbrushes, 3 bottles of mouthwash, 2 bottles of contact solution,  4 packs of razors, 4 Old spice deodorant, 1 Secret deodorant, Johnson & Johnson bath stuff, package of Goody Rubberbands, a shelf of toilet paper, and on the bottom is 1-12pk of purple Cottonelle & 2- 9pks of the blue Cottonelle.  On the top shelf (not pictured) is a couple packs of pads/tampons.

i'm hoping that i can start on my food pile this week/weekend.  with Safeway pasta being $0.79ea & doubles coming out on Sunday for Albertsons....i should be able to stock up on Hamburger Helper, Totino's Pizza, Pizza Rolls, Ice Cream & cereal.

This morning, I attempted to "jump start" my Albertsons trips.  By "jump start," i mean, you have to start with some money out of pocket, but once you start & keep rolling over your catalina's (coupons you get back when you check out), you can get a decent amount of stuff for little out of pocket expense.

So this morning, my plan was to hit up Albertsons & buy the following:
    8 - Totino Party Pizza's - $1.25ea
    2 - Boxes of Cocoa Puffs - $1.88ea
    (a total of $13.76)
    Then I had:  2 - $1.00 off 4 Totino Pizza's
                       2 - $0.75 off 1 box of Cocoa Puffs

Well....I wasn't paying attention.  AGAIN.  I bought the wrong Cocoa Puffs.  UGH!  It should've checked out like this:  Pay $10.26 out of pocket, get $5.00 catalina to use on my next trip.

But instead, I messed up & paid $16-something & didn't get my catalina.  GRRRRRRRR!!

However tonight I feel like I redeemed myself by getting the following at QFC:

     4 - Degree Deodorant - $1.99ea
     (a total of $7.96)
     I had:  4 - $1.00 off 1 Degree Deodorant

It was $3.96 for all 4 & then a $5.00 catalina printed up.  Making it a $1.04 money maker.  I think this is the second money maker transaction i've had.  I actually ended up picking up a gallon of milk, a small bottle of pepsi & candy too.

I have plans to "re-jump start" the Albertsons shopping.  And i'm hoping to score great things at Fred Meyer this weekend with their Friends & Family pass.  They're offering the following:

   Extra 20% off Apparel, Shoes, Cosmetics & Accessories
   Extra 15% off Home, School Supplies, Toys, etc
   Extra 10% off Electronics
   Extra 10% off Nutrition
   Extra 10% off Private Selection brand foods
   Extra 20% off Jewelry

I haven't sat down with their ad yet to see what things I can get, but i need to find out if i can stack their bonus coupons on top of this.  Also need to see what I can rack up at Walgreens to get my Register Rewards to use there too!! :)

Happy couponing!!

I couldn't NOT go back to Fred Meyer

Last night I was up til almost 1:30am, planning my shopping trip for today.  I had planned on going to Target, QFC & Walgreens (yep...again).

I had a lengthy list for Target...some were necessities & some were "if i happen to wander over"

A gift for my hula sister's baby shower
  Intended on using my $1.00 off any Gerber onesies, but they were so expensive.  So i bought her cuter ones.
  Bought some Johnson & Johnson items, using my $3.00 off 3 items coupon.
5 Star 2-3 Subject Notebooks - using my $0.75 off coupons (i had 2 of em)
New Scissors - using my $1.00 off coupon
QTips - i took my $0.30 off coupon, but the Up & Up Brand was WAY cheaper
Dental Floss - i took my 2 $1.00 off Reach Floss & got more free dental floss
Screen Print Tee Shirt - it was $8.00 & I used my $3.00 off coupon

When we left, I decided that I NEEDED to go back to Fred Meyers & spend those Register Rewards.  What was I going to do with $25.00 in Register Rewards?  I wanted to do what I had intended on doing, buying groceries.  I scoped out the registers in search for the one cashier that didn't give me any issues, but she wasn't there & I decided that i'd just use the self checkout.  So this is what I bought....

2 packages of Pork Ribs - using my $2.00 off coupon (i had 2 of em)
Plum Sauce
Oranges
Hoagie Rolls
2 cans of Corn
1 can of Cream of Mushroom Soup
Nori
& i can't remember what else....

I went to check out, scanned my items, scanned my Rewards card, then hit "coupons" & the computer said "an attendant will be right over to assist you." CRAP!! I thought for sure I was going to have another issue.  But she came over, scanned em all & said 'OMG!! YOU DID SO GOOD TODAY!!" And then the register said that I owed $2.76.  YAY!!

Then we went to QFC.  I wanted to get the Tide Laundry Detergent Deal.  (It was $5.99ea.  If you buy 2, then you instantly get $2.00 off, making it $9.98.  And then I had 2 - $2.00 off one coupons.  Making it $5.98 for 2)  I also wanted to get the Cottonelle TP, which is on sale for $5.99, but QFC is running "Daily Deals" where you go on their site & download a coupon to your rewards card & I scored a $2.00 off 1 package of Cottonelle.  So it was $3.99 for the 12pk.  And then I bought another pack of boneless pork ribs, bc I didn't realize that i had bought 1 pack from FM that was "bone in" BOO!

My last stop was Walgreens.  I got my Contact Solution again ($8.00 this week, I had a $1.00 off coupon, making it $7.00 & then it gives an $8.00 Register Rewards back), a 6pk of Viva paper towels (it was $5.99, there's a Walgreens coupon for $1.00 off & then I had a $0.50 off coupon also).

My total today was a little over $81, but I paid $34 & some odd change.  A savings of 58%.

It's a new month, so I'm hoping to keep better track at my spending this month to get a better count for my grocery shopping & stockpiling.

Not a good day redeeming my Register Rewards!

Sadly today was NOT a good day shopping.  I have used my Register Rewards at Fred Meyers about 3 times prior to today.  2 out of the 3 times, the cashier had to call the Customer Service desk to ask if my Register Rewards were indeed ok to use.  And the other time, the cashier didn't question it & said that she's seen them used before.

However this was NOT the case today.

I had $35.00 in Register Rewards & I was on a mission to get some groceries & a hoodie (on sale for $16.99 & then used my 20% off coupon from THIS site, which brought the hoodie to about $13.56).  I got all my stuff & went to check out.  I noticed the cashier glancing over at my pile of Register Rewards while scanning my items.  I knew she was going to give me a hard time.  I told her that I'd used them before & she said that it was a "new thing that they do now...accept the Register Rewards."  Whatever.  So when she's done ringing up my stuff, she grabs my Register Rewards, reads the top one & says "oh...it says here that you can only use 1 of them, so do you want to use this $8.00 one?"  I didn't question her, perhaps there was a change to the coupon policy, i don't know.  So my out of pocket was $42 something.

I walked over towards the Customer Service desk, had the kids stand on the side & went & stood in line.  I wanted to know if the cashier was right or if I was right.  The first girl I talked to didn't know & had to call someone over.  When that lady came, she said "no, you can't use these, because it says that it's redeemable only at Walgreens.  it needs to say Manufacturer Coupon."  I pointed out that it did say Manufacturer Coupon on the top AND redeemable at Walgreens only on the bottom.  She then said that she was going to look into it & to wait a second.  So she jumped on her computer, printed up something, then called someone else who then clarified...

that i was right.

I can use all the Register Rewards in ONE transaction as long as my items total at least the amount of my Register Rewards.

So I asked her if i can do an adjustment on my receipt since I had just checked out & was misinformed.  And she said "nope...you have to use it in a transaction."

Ummmm. I just did a transaction, I tried to use all of them, I was told that i can only use one & now I'm here at Customer Service.

I left.

I suppose that I could've just done a full return on all of my items.  It would've been the best idea.  Then re-shopped for all of my items again.  However, after making my kids sit on the side waiting for me to get my answer & watching Nunu bust out the jo-jo's to make Ry sit down & stop squirming, I knew I didn't have that kind of time.

So, now i've got $27.00 in Register Rewards in my purse to use.  I can't decide if I want to go back & hope for that one cashier that never questioned me.  Or if I just want to use these at Walgreens only & just try to have a stock of Register Rewards that would just roll over & over & my purchases would never come out of pocket.

I need to re-think this whole thing.  Have any of you ever tried the Register Rewards at Fred Meyer yet?  Any issues?

Walgreens Trips....plural!

I've made 3 trips to Walgreens in the last 3 days.  I went once on Sunday morning & to two different ones today.

On Sunday, I bought:

2 - 12pks of Cottonelle toilet paper
     They were $5.00 ea ($10.00 for both).  I used 2 - $0.75 off coupons PLUS 2 - $1.00 off coupons that was in the Walgreens coupon booklet for July, making it $3.25ea ($6.50 for both).  And then I got a $3.50 Register Rewards to use on my next shopping trip (at Fred Meyer).  Making it $1.50 for each 12pk of toilet paper.

2 - Bottles of Head & Shoulders
    They were $4.00 ea ($8.00 for both).  I used 1 - Buy One Get One Free coupon.  Making it $4.00 for both.  And then I got a $2.00 Register Rewards back.  Making it $1.00 for each bottle.

1 - Bottle of Complete Multipurpose Contact Solution
   It was $8.00.  I used 1 - $1.00 off coupon (found in this past Sunday's SmartSource insert).  Made this $7.00 & then I got an $8.00 Register Rewards back.  Making it a $1.00 money maker.

My total out of pocket:  $17.50'ish.  Got back $13.50 in Register Rewards.  Making it $4.00 on the items.

Today's first trip to Walgreens, I bought: (they didn't have the contact solution boo!!)

2 - Bottles of Head & Shoulders

1 - Scope Mouth Wash & 1 - Crest Complete Toothpaste
    This was $3.00 ea ($6.00 for both).  I used 1 - $1.00 off scope & 1 - $0.75 off crest coupons.  Making this $4.25.  I got back $3.00 in Register Rewards.  Making it $1.25 for both.

2 - Oral B Glide Dental Floss
    This was $2.50 ea ($5.00 for both).  I used 1 - $1.00 off & 1 - $0.75 off coupon.  Making this $3.25.  I got back $2.00 in Register Rewards.  Making it $1.25 for both.

2 - Coffee Mate Creamers
    This was $1.50 ea ($3.00 for both).  I used 1 - $0.75 off 2 items & 1 - $1.00 off 2 items.  Making this $1.25. I got back $1.00 in Register Rewards.  Making it $0.25 for both.

My total out of pocket:  $15.02 after tax.  Got back $8.00 in Register Rewards.  Making it $7.02 on the items.

Today's second trip to Walgreens, I bought:

1 - Bottle of Complete Multipurpose Contact Solution

2 - Bottles of Head & Shoulders

1 - Scope Mouth Wash & 1 - Crest Complete Toothpaste

2 - Oral B Glide Dental Floss

2 - Packages of Black Forest Gummy Bears (weakness lol)

My total out of pocket:  $21-something.  Got back $15.00 in Register Rewards.  Making it $6.00 on all the items.

So over my three trips at Walgreens, I paid $53.52 out of pocket, got back $36.50 in Register Rewards to use at Freddy's for meat.  Making all of the items: $17.02.

And yes, I know that I still PAID $53.00, however, I have that $36 back to spend at Freddy's on the more expensive, non coupon items.

I also did a small run at Albertsons & used 6 of the doubler coupons.  But I didn't have much luck with their sales this week.  This is what I did buy though....

2 - Boxes of New York Texas Toast - $1.00 per box after coupons & doubles.
1 - Bag of Bugles - $0.88 after coupon & double.
1 - Kings Hawaiian Sub Rolls - $0.99 after coupon & double.
2 - Talentin's Gelato - $9.78 after coupon & double (don't ask.  M is addicted to these & without researching, I thought i'd be doing good by using my coupon & doubles here.  SO NOT THE CASE!! They sold at Albertsons for $5.99ea.  But they sell at Safeway for $3.99.  That's what I get for not doing my homework.  He better eat them ALL!

My total out of pocket: $13-something

Tonight, I'll be hitting up QFC for my BFFF & my hula sissy's Mom.

Buy 4 General Mills Cereal, Get 2 Gallons of Free Milk!! Cereal is $1.88 ea.  I have 2 coupons that are $1.00 off any 2.  Which will make them $2.76 for 2....$5.52 for all 4 boxes & 2 gallons of milk.

I've got to make my list for Target (not sure what's matched up, if anything, but i've got clothes coupons that can be used on the clearance stuff, so it's just a matter of going to see if there's anything good on the racks).
And then I've got to make my list for Fred Meyer, since I've got these Register Rewards to use up.

Last weeks shopping update & thoughts on this week.

I can't believe that I didn't update this when I went shopping last week.  Boo for me!

So I ended up at Walgreens & only bought the Scuncii hair items.  Everything else was gone.  (I find that my Walgreens here is ALWAYS out of the coupon deals & I've been told a couple of times that someone comes in & takes all wipes the shelves out...RUDE COUPONER!)  Anyhoo, so I only ended up with $6.00 in Register Rewards to use against my Fred Meyer purchase.

When I got to Fred Meyer, I realized that I needed some other grocery items along with the Converse shoes.  In the end, the shoes were $25.00, I used the 50% off coupon & the 15% off coupon on top of that, making Nunu's shoes a little over $10.00!!  It was great!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So then it comes to this weekend.  I got my free FW Mirror paper on Friday & was excited to see the FOUR inserts!!  I had a busy weekend, but on Sunday morning, I got to read a few blogs & saw that I was able to get free contact solution along with a few other awesome things....
Walgreens & Fred Meyer Plan
About a month or two ago, I signed up for the email rewards program for Fred Meyer.  About a week & a half ago, I got an email from them with an exclusive coupon for email rewards customers & attached was a 50% off any pair of shoes coupon!!  I printed it & have been holding on to it.
This week in the Fred Meyer ad, there's Converse Chucks (women's) on sale for $39.99.  (i don't know how much they go for, but whatever...it's for Nunu, not me)  So with my coupon, it becomes $19.99.  Then while I was reading the fine print, it states that it MAY BE COMBINED WITH A BONUS COUPON.  Which, if you got this weeks ad, there's a bonus coupon for 15% off apparel, shoes & accessories.  So now the Chucks will be $14.00.
Wait...i'm not done.
I've written multiple times that I'm a fan of Walgreens, simply because you can buy something, then get most or all of your money back in their Register Rewards program & then take those Register Rewards to Fred Meyer for more expensive items.  Well here's the plan, since I'm ok with meats for this week....
At Walgreens:
** Scuncii No Damage hair Elastics on sale $3
Buy 2, get $3 RR (& 40x points or $3)
Pay $3, get $3 RR
FREE after RR or bonus points
**Irish Spring Deodorant or Body Wash on sale $3
Buy 2, get $4 RR (20x points or $3)
Use $1/1 deodorant coupon 7/24 SS insert
Pay $4-$5, get $4 RR
FREE - $.50 each after coupons & RR, $.50-$1 each after bonus points
**Oral-B indicator toothbrush on sale $2.49
Buy 2, get $3 RR
Use $2/2 coupon from 7/3 P&G insert
Pay $2.98, get $3 RR
FREE after coupons & RR
**Huggies wipes (64-72 count) on sale $2.49
Use $.50/1 coupon from 7/17 SS insert
Use $1/1 coupon from July Walgreens coupon book (at front of store)
$.99 after coupons
So after that, my total out of pocket should be about $12.00 + tax & then i'll get back $10.00 in Register Rewards when I check out.
I've had a $3.00 Register Rewards catalina in my purse, so this transaction will be bringing my Register Rewards total to:  $13.00
I'll do this Walgreens trip first & then i'll hit up Fred Meyer for the shoes, using $13.00 in Register Rewards & paying about $1 + tax out of pocket.
Making the two trips:  about $13 out of pocket for:
   Converse Chucks
   2 boxes of Huggies wipes
   2 Oral B Toothbrushes
   2 Irish Spring Deodarants
   2 packs of Scuncii Hair things
WISH ME LUCK!! :)
How this got started
I thought today that i'd post up how this couponing thing got started.  I'm sure it's no surprise, but that stupid tv show, Extreme Couponing, got me curious to how these people were getting away with so much stuff for hardly any money.  I cut coupons randomly from the ads every week & more than half the time, I forgot to give them to the cashier.  I was pretty committed to Safeway.  I know the store well.  It was always stocked with what I needed.  I saw the show one evening & decided to check out The Krazy Coupon Lady blog.  I read it when I remembered, but I wasn't really paying too close attention.  And then one day she had a post about how to get free popsicles & the kind of ice cream i liked for super cheap.  I had been clipping a few coupons here & there when I remembered & i just so happened to have the coupons needed for the deal....and it worked.  I was shocked to be able to walk out with free ice cream & I had to try it again....and again....and again.  I found a few blogs that were easy to read & understand, I clicked on references to other blogs, I read-read-read.  And that's how I got here.
At first I only cut coupons of items that we used.  I used a small accordion folder that I found in the dollar section at Target to house all my coupons.  After awhile, I couldn't figure out how to organize my coupons in the accordion folder.  I had all my coupons mixed together.  The makeup coupons with the toilet paper & mixed in was a coupon for chips or hot dogs.  I'd stand in the end of the aisles, grab my coupons out of my little accordion folder & start flipping through them, in search for my coupon.  Sometimes i found it, sometimes i didn't.  It was annoying & frustrating.
That's when I found a blog post titled:  How to become an Extreme Couponer in 10 Days on another blog.  I read through to Day 8 & stopped.  I decided that maybe I did need to start a binder, with categories so I could find my coupons easily.  I also started to buy 2-3 Sunday papers & clipped more of the manufacturer coupons.  I found in my daily blog reading, that when the price is good on something, you want multiples of it right?  So in order to get multiples at that wonderful price, you have to have the coupons to go with it....whether you buy 3 or 100.
After reading more, I found Target coupons & Coupons.com where I could get more coupons.  And then I decided to ask my Dad to save me his Federal Way Mirror newspaper that's free & delivered on Tuesday & Friday's that have ads in it also.
AND THEN...I started to find that I could get the "free" (or close to free or money maker) items....BUT I was throwing away the coupons for em, because I didn't use those particular items.  So now, I clip almost everything & just put it in my binder.  If i use it, i use it...if not, oh well.  I will say that most times a deal will come up where I can score good items for really cheap.
So, for those of you that ask me "how do i start couponing too?"  My advice is to start cutting manufacturer coupons (doesn't matter where you get them from, Sunday paper, work break room, the neighbors.  and you don't need 5-10 inserts, even 1 is good) & just hold on to the coupons.  The following week, do the same & again for the next 4 weeks. While doing this, look at your store ads every week.  When items are on sale, see if you have a manufacturer coupon for that particular item also...that's called "stacking."  That's pretty much how this couponing thing works.  There's more to it, of course, but that's for another day.
Example #1:
At Walgreens this week, is this coupon for Pure Silk Shaving Cream.  You can purchase 4 using this one coupon. And the sale price is $0.99ea.
2 Weeks ago, there was a manufacturer coupon in the Red Plum insert for $0.80 off Pure Silk Shaving Cream.  So you take this Walgreens coupon & your manufacturers coupon & you get shaving cream for $0.19ea.  If you have 1 manufacturers coupon, then you can get 1 can...but if you have 4, then you can get 4 cans for less than a dollar.
Example #2:
At Safeway, this coupon for Finish Dish Washer Detergent is on sale for $5.49.
2 Weeks ago, there was a manufacturer coupon in the SmartSource insert for $1.00 off Finish Powerball Quantum Detergent.  So just like example #1, you'll take this coupon, along with your $1.00 manufacturers coupon & you'll get this for $4.49.
I did a small trip today to Walgreens.  I'll post up about it tomorrow.
Starting my lists
It's Friday & all of the blogs are coming out with what to expect in Sunday's paper, what inserts are coming, what deals are expected, etc.  I didn't make it to Walgreens or Fred Meyer this week.  There wasn't enough at either store to make it worth it for me.  But I already see a few things at Walgreens for this upcoming week.
I've been working on the evil thing called budgeting.  I've been researching what is ideal for a family of 4 & I think I found something that'll work for us.  Like mentioned before, I used to budget $125 per week for groceries.  I've been under that lately, but in some cases, i'm not paying attention to the fact that I didn't buy any meat or veggies or items to prepare a REAL meal.   So this week, i'm hoping to pay better attention & designate a certain amount to "stock piling."  I've decided to work with cash this week (the envelope method) & once it's gone, it's gone.  This will cause me to take a better look at what i'm spending the money on, making sure all the bases are covered for our family.
I also have to take a look at what is coming up for us between now & next Thursday (pay day).  We've joined the Y, so that means daily car trips in the morning, packing snacks, drinks for when we're done.  Next weekend we're taking a day trip out of town, so packing up some stuff for the drive down & to hang out for the day.  And next Sunday is a birthday party at a local pool, snacks & drinks for the kids is mandatory or else we'll be spending a ton at the concession.
So if all goes well this week, i'll come across some awesome deals!!
Evening Shopping Trip
Did I mention that Ry wasn't a good shopper yesterday morning?  I decided to head home after my second Albertsons trip & if I had the chance to make it out again, then I would.  My sister inlaw came over around 7:30 & I got to finish up my shopping plan.
First Stop - Target
  I bought 2 - Ortega Taco Seasoning Packets (paid $0.34 for 2)
               4 - Scotch Tape (all FREE)
               4 - 10pk of Bic Pens (all FREE)
               2 - 10pk of PaperMate Pens (all FREE)
               2 - V8 Fusion Drinks (paid $1.98 for 2)
  TOTAL:  $2.32.  Paid with the $5.00 gift card that I had gotten at my last Target couponing trip. ($0.00 out of pocket running total)
Second Stop - Albertsons
   I completed Transaction #3, but I swapped the Nature Valley Thins for 4 boxes of Golden Grahams which my sister inlaw said she liked.
   I bought 4 - Golden Grahams
                1 - Pot Roast
   TOTAL:  $11.88, used 2 of my $2.00 off my next shopping trip catalinas & paid $7.88 out of pocket.  ($7.88 running total)
     I also got:  A catalina for FREE milk
                      A catalina for $2.00 off my next $2.00 or more purchase
                      A catalina for $2.00 off my next shopping order
                      A catalina for $2.00 off 5 General Mills Cereals
                      AND a catalina for $4.00 off my next purchase of $40 or more
Third Stop - H Mart  (this was not a coupon trip.  this is the only store that carries the brown rice we like)
     I bought 1 - 15lb bag of brown rice
                   1 - package of baby bok choy
                   1 - thing of ginger
                   1 - package of thin sliced beef
    TOTAL:  $32.35 out of pocket ($40.23 running total)
Fourth & Final Stop - Safeway (a stop mostly just to buy my beloved Magnum Ice Cream that was on sale LOL)
       I bought 2 - Magnum Double Chocolate Ice Cream Bars
                    1 - Small bottle of Pepsi
                    1 - Box of Capri Sun
                    1 - Package of Cascade Dish Washer Gel Packs
       TOTAL:  $12.03 out of pocket ($52.26 running total)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

So my complete shopping trip for the day was:  $73.32.  I think I did great!! Especially if I didn't have to buy rice this week, which is $22.99 (would've made it $50.33) & if i'd gone shopping earlier yesterday, I wouldn't have bought the 10pc Fried Chicken meal, I would've had time to cook (would've made it around $41.00).  Poor planning on my part.

I'm hoping that this stuff is starting to make sense or that the breakdowns are easy to follow.  If not, can you please let me know & I can adjust where necessary.  I'd love to help you all in any way!!
